Two Years Old

My how time has flown by. Our little boy is not so little anymore. Amazing to think that it was 2 years ago that he was born and that our family changed from a family of 3 to a family of 4.
Everyday I am amazed at how different our 2 kids are. I love their crazy differences and embrace everything that makes them them.

Here's some updates about our crazy boy:

  • He is the most independent kid I have encountered in a while. I can't remember the last time that he held my hand without a fit (when crossing the street especially). He has to get in and out of the car all by  himself, he has to make his own breakfast every morning, his favorite words are "myself".
  • Although he is very independent, he is also a very good snuggler. He loves to just wrap his arms around you and snuggle in tight.
  • He loves to sing; loudly, wherever he is. His favorite songs are Jesus Loves Me, Twinkle Twinkle, Happy Birthday, Star Light, Head Shoulders Knees and Toes, and Mr. Moon.
  • He is a bit truck obsessed. Pretty much all he plays with, all day long. The trucks drive around the house, they sit at the table and cheer him on when he eats (Go, Liam, Go), they go potty in Callie's dollhouse....pretty much anything you can think about, he does with a truck. His favorites are Lightening McQueen and his school bus.
  • We have made a lot of progress on his language. He now talks in complete sentences and much easier to understand and communicate with.
  • We have also turned the corner on books. It has taken him quite a while but he finally is starting to love books and being read to (especially if they are truck books).
  • He loves his sister and follows her around daily. Luckily, most days, she is extremely patient with him. He loves to play hide and seek with her and, surprisingly, will sit quietly in a hiding spot and wait for her to find him. They are also found playing 'get you' daily....which pretty much just means they chase each other around the house.
  • He continues to be a bit shy around other people although he will play coy with some strangers. We haven't enrolled him in swim lessons yet but each week he goes to story time at the local library and tumbling through the Y. Each week he opens up a bit more and will do a bit more each time. Today I actually caught him singing along during story time.
  • Outside continues to be his favorite place; rain or shine. If he could spend all day outside he would.
We didn't do much for his birthday. A quiet celebration at home with just us. Liam was totally happy because he got a cupcake and new trucks....a perfect day for him.

Here's just some random things from our crazy boy.

Rolling and Reading

Callie rolls ALL over the place!!! One of her favorite places to end up is her bookshelf. Look what I found! As a side note, it looks like one of our cats is finally accepting that Callie is part of the family (or atleast, she isn't going anywhere) and has become very tolerant of her. She lets Callie "pet" her and will even walk up to Callie (which, if you know this cat, is VERY unusual - there are some people who still have never seen her). The other day when I was getting Callie from her nap this was outside her door. Apparently the cat loves Callie enough to bring her toys.

Mothers Day Weekend

We had amazing weather for Mother's Day weekend and tried to enjoy every minute of the summer. On Sunday, Callie and I ran the color run. A 5k through Seattle which involved a lot of dust and color. It was a lot of fun and  I was super proud of her and how she pushed herself. Before the race. Shirts are still white and hair is still normal color. We ran with one of Callie's good friends and her mom.  Bubbles! That was a highlight for Callie, she loved running through the bubbles.  Done! Color and dust everywhere! We spent Saturday with Katy and Dennis and explored Renton and a local beach and park. Callie and Katy The gang! Saturday was so beautiful that we actually went home and the kids ran in the sprinklers and played in the bathing suits all day.

Complete and Total Exhaustion

So, Callie has come down with a case of croup (good ol'daycare) and we had a VERY rough night on Sunday. She was up every 20 mins - hour coughing. Luckily Preston was home and we took turns with her - eventually I ended up sleeping with her in the chair (although she still woke up coughing every hour) because I didn't have to work on Monday. Needless to say, we were not a very exciting family Monday night. We were all in bed by 8 and Callie continued to get up a bit but not nearly as much as the night before. The last time I went in to see her was about 11 - the next thing I knew it was time for me to get up for work. When Preston got up, I made the comment "she slept better than on Sunday" and he just looked at me and laughed. Apparently, she got up a bunch in the middle in the night and I was just too exhausted to realize it. He said I was so out of it that one time I told him it was the rain, not Callie crying.....I'm going to choose my version of the story and...
