Hawaii fun!

Last weekend we headed out to Oahu to enjoy some sun, water, and family! It was an amazing time and we couldn't have asked for a better family vacation.
We rented a house right on the beach for the beginning of the week and enjoyed a lot of beach and sun. It was the perfect size for the three of us and let Preston and I sit on the lanai while Callie slept. We woke up to the sound of the waves and fell asleep to them too. Although Callie decided that 5:30 was a great time to wake up everyday, Preston and I embraced it and we spent our mornings walking on the beach looking for shells and turtles.
The second part of the week, we went and stayed with Pat and Kristy (long time college friends) in their new beautiful home. Callie loved it there because there was SO much space to run around and she could jump in the pool anytime she wanted (as long as she could talk someone into going with her)! We ate some amazing food with them - I think I ate more calories in the last few days than I have in the whole last year - but it was SO worth it!
Overall, an amazing family vacation!

This was our backyard! It was perfect because we could spend the mornings and afternoons on the beach and not worry about lugging things around.

Callie surprised us - for never having swam/seen an ocean before, we expected her to be scared of the waves but she LOVED them! All we heard was giggles and saw her jumping and dancing in the waves.

Much digging happened - not sure who had more fun, Callie or us

Digging a huge hole - big enough to fit in
MUCH time was spent being naked or just in a swim diaper. I think we only used three diapers every day - one in the morning, one for naps, and one for bed.

We only did 2 real "tourist" things. We went to a luau (which Callie loved) and we went to a public nature reserve.

We spent a couple days on the beach in front of our place but then headed out for some variety. One of the places that was recommended was the tide pools. They were amazing! When the tide was out, we saw crabs, fish, sea cucumbers, and sea stars (none of which Callie was willing to touch). This place was awesome for kids because it created natural wave free pools that kids could swim in! The pools were deep and big enough that Callie could actually swim around in. Callie loved it!

Popsicle time!
The nature reserve was amazing! I think it was my favorite place. It was by far, the busiest beach but so worth it. It was in a cove and had spectacular snorkeling. It was wave free for Callie and she was so excited to see the fish! Look closely, there is Preston and Callie way out there swimming.

Snuggles with Pat and Kristy.

Callie taught us a few things on the trip though, here's what Preston and I now know:
1. Don't expect someone to sleep on the plane just because it is an overnight flight - when Preston and I finally gave up trying to get her to sleep it was a great ride. Everyone was extremely exhausted when we got there! Sorry Alaska airlines flight 835!
2. Sand can literally get into EVERY crack and crevice on the body - I think we might be finding sand for the next week or so.
3. Spending the morning at the beach is VERY exhausting for Callie - I have never seen her fall asleep so hard or so fast! It was fabulous - ha!
4. ALWAYS ask if there is AC in the house you are renting!

Rolling and Reading

Callie rolls ALL over the place!!! One of her favorite places to end up is her bookshelf. Look what I found! As a side note, it looks like one of our cats is finally accepting that Callie is part of the family (or atleast, she isn't going anywhere) and has become very tolerant of her. She lets Callie "pet" her and will even walk up to Callie (which, if you know this cat, is VERY unusual - there are some people who still have never seen her). The other day when I was getting Callie from her nap this was outside her door. Apparently the cat loves Callie enough to bring her toys.

7 Months

This month seemed to have flown by just as quickly as all the others. It's crazy to think she has been part of our family for seven months already. We have had our first real battle (and are still battling) with a never ending cold. She has been a trooper though - although I wish that we could do more to help her. Here's what is new (things have moved very quickly this month): She is up on all fours. She seems to be taking after her cousin Clara, where she can crawl backwards but not yet forwards - which can be very frustrating as the toy she is trying to get to seems to just keep getting farther and farther away. After she learned to get up on all fours, she very quickly learned to go from all fours to sitting. We have yet to find any real foods that she will turn down, although green beans appears to be her favorite so far. When feeding her green beans she will lean forward VERY far and open her mouth as wide as can be just to get the next bite. We can't seem to get

10 Months

So, I am a bit behind. It is officially the end of the school year and I am feeling a bit overwhelmed with learning the new job and the close of the school year. Much different from the classroom. When I took Callie in for her nine month appointment her pediatrician checked her ears (which looked totally fine) then made the comment - I don't mean to jinx you but has Callie had an ear infection yet? To which my response was no (she had a super mild one that they gave us medicine for just because we were getting on a plane to Pitt) - in my mind, my response was "no, but we have had everything else imaginable"! The newest thing: last Friday when Callie got up for the day, her eyes were swollen shut. Turns out she had pink eye which was no fun. Many rough nights later she seems to finally be getting back to her happy go lucky self. Here are the newest things about Callie: She continues to get quicker walking with a push toy. Her teachers love watching her outside at da
