The Holiday Season

This holiday season has been a bit of a blur....enjoying as much family time as possible! Since I have been so behind, this post might be a bit longer than normal.....stick with me.
We kept ourselves very busy through the whole month of December. I tried very hard to be super organized (somewhat successfully) and did an activity advent calendar with Callie this year. Each day we did something special - from a picnic dinner in front of the Christmas tree to playing in the snow with our cousins!

We ended up searching for trees on the coldest day ever.....when we left the house, it was 18 degrees. I'm not sure who complained more.....Callie or Preston! I think they both wanted to just cut the first tree down that we saw but I refused! Callie decided to cooperate with the promise of hot chocolate, it took Preston a bit more to agree.

We then headed to the local zoo to feed the reindeer some apples. Callie LOVED this! She threw those apples to every single reindeer that she saw.

Watching them eat her treats

We did our annual Knowles cookie bake. This time, we decided to invite the kids - which went surprisingly well. I failed to take any pictures except this one....oops.

Making cookies with Grandma

One of the activities that I put in Callie's advent calendar was to drive up to the mountains and play in the snow. We woke up that morning and were surprised that it snowed at our house! It was really nice, we didn't have to drive all the way up to the mountains. We packed up our gear and headed to a local park to play with our cousins in the snow.

We then headed down to Portland for a very quick trip to see Gram and the rest of the family. It was a perfect trip - just wish it would have been longer!

Reading books with Gram and Aunt Sarah

Our last night there, we headed to a local Mexican restaurant to enjoy some local margaritas.... see if you can guess which one belongs to who :-)

We had a perfect Christmas Eve and Christmas day. It was very fun because Callie "got it" and was so excited that Santa ate the cookies she left and that Rudolph ate his banana - she couldn't stop talking about it!

Callie got a new bike - very fun!

Santa brought her the kitty cat scooter that she asked him for (she talked about it for MONTHS!!)

She is obsessed with bears and going on bear hunts so she got a pair of bear claw slippers......now she walks around the house growling.....loudly!

The Knowles crew

We then headed to Hoodsport to celebrate with the Graham crew. A perfect few days of relaxing and hiking!

Callie quickly has mastered her bike......WOW! She's growing too fast!

Rolling and Reading

Callie rolls ALL over the place!!! One of her favorite places to end up is her bookshelf. Look what I found! As a side note, it looks like one of our cats is finally accepting that Callie is part of the family (or atleast, she isn't going anywhere) and has become very tolerant of her. She lets Callie "pet" her and will even walk up to Callie (which, if you know this cat, is VERY unusual - there are some people who still have never seen her). The other day when I was getting Callie from her nap this was outside her door. Apparently the cat loves Callie enough to bring her toys.

Another Plane Ride

So, Callie and I spent my spring break in Pennsylvania. It was a wonderful trip and Callie just LOVED being spoiled by all her aunts and uncles, cousins, and grandmas! (she was a bit in shock when we came back home and she was stuck with just mom and dad - she also took a two hour nap the day we got back, which she has never, never (and probably never will again) done, traveling sure is exhausting!). I was a bit nervous about the very long plane ride, but besides not eating at all, Callie did fabulous! Although, she never really did understand why she couldn't grab the people sitting next to us or in front of us. Even though she got sick on the way back, she was still a wonderful traveler. She loved sitting with Grandma and looking out the plane window (yuck!). We met Grandma in Chicago - at that point in time both Grandma and Callie needed a snuggle, so they spent part of our layover cuddling up in the airport. (sorry, I took these with my cell phone) Looking out the ...

Complete and Total Exhaustion

So, Callie has come down with a case of croup (good ol'daycare) and we had a VERY rough night on Sunday. She was up every 20 mins - hour coughing. Luckily Preston was home and we took turns with her - eventually I ended up sleeping with her in the chair (although she still woke up coughing every hour) because I didn't have to work on Monday. Needless to say, we were not a very exciting family Monday night. We were all in bed by 8 and Callie continued to get up a bit but not nearly as much as the night before. The last time I went in to see her was about 11 - the next thing I knew it was time for me to get up for work. When Preston got up, I made the comment "she slept better than on Sunday" and he just looked at me and laughed. Apparently, she got up a bunch in the middle in the night and I was just too exhausted to realize it. He said I was so out of it that one time I told him it was the rain, not Callie crying.....I'm going to choose my version of the story and...
