The last of our summer vacation

Well, this summer has flown by. I did my best to keep the kiddos active but also reveled in our "stay home and do nothing" days. We did a lot of hiking, a lot of swimming, and a lot of park dates. I love summer and am sad to see it coming to an end.

Callie has been asking all year to go see Mt. Rainier and decided that it was worth the drive to see it in all of its glory. It's safe to say that she loved every minute of it and was awed by its beauty. I was proud of both kiddos - it was not the easiest hike, mainly do to the fact that is was extremely hot and very little cover. Hands down, one of my favorite hikes that I've done with the kiddos so far.
These views were constant through the whole hike. We also go to enjoy the wildflowers (and the mosquitoes)

Callie was amazing - she was hot but never wanted to stop. We told each other stories the whole time which made it very fun for her. Liam was a trooper (especially since he had to miss his nap). He walked about 2.5 miles and then stayed in the pack for the rest of it.

Wish Liam's eyes were open - o well

Our lunch spot and the cliff that goes down to an amazing lake

We also ventured out this summer for the first time ever to watch the Blue Angels. Not sure the kids were super amazed by them but they had friends to keep them busy while the moms watched.

I failed to get any pictures of the planes when they were actually close to us....

One of the hikes we did this summer, Preston was able to come with us. A great day!

Liam refused to get his picture taken...

We reserved one day each week this summer to spend as a beach day, I had all intentions to expose them to a new beach each week but we always ended up at the same place. It was perfect for both kids - sand, water, and a playground.

We also hit up some dollar movies on the colder days.

Watching Curious George

This spring/summer, we have worked a lot on the outside of our house. Redid some  grass, deck, landscaping, etc. After the mounds of wood chips, dirt, bark were gone, the kids were kind of over the projects. This picture pretty much sums up Callie's feelings on the whole thing....

Rolling and Reading

Callie rolls ALL over the place!!! One of her favorite places to end up is her bookshelf. Look what I found! As a side note, it looks like one of our cats is finally accepting that Callie is part of the family (or atleast, she isn't going anywhere) and has become very tolerant of her. She lets Callie "pet" her and will even walk up to Callie (which, if you know this cat, is VERY unusual - there are some people who still have never seen her). The other day when I was getting Callie from her nap this was outside her door. Apparently the cat loves Callie enough to bring her toys.

9 Months

It's hard to believe that in 3 months our beautiful daughter will be 1 year old! How fast time flies (and how quickly she changes). Here's some updates (on our very big bug): She weighs in at a whopping 20 lb 13 oz (81% percentile) and continues to be VERY long, measuring in at 29.75 inches (98% percentile). Again, we are not sure who she got that gene from. She now not only can get herself down from the standing position but she also has had a few moments when she has stood totally by herself. On Mother's Day she stood for a good 5 seconds all by herself. Daycare tells us that she now uses other kids heads to help herself stand up (sorry!). She can also walk along the couch or another long piece of furniture. Today I was cooking dinner (Callie is often very content playing in the kitchen with "non toys" while I cook) and I looked over and she was pushing the kitchen chair across the floor. I was so excited, I made her do it again so I could video tape it ...

Another Plane Ride

So, Callie and I spent my spring break in Pennsylvania. It was a wonderful trip and Callie just LOVED being spoiled by all her aunts and uncles, cousins, and grandmas! (she was a bit in shock when we came back home and she was stuck with just mom and dad - she also took a two hour nap the day we got back, which she has never, never (and probably never will again) done, traveling sure is exhausting!). I was a bit nervous about the very long plane ride, but besides not eating at all, Callie did fabulous! Although, she never really did understand why she couldn't grab the people sitting next to us or in front of us. Even though she got sick on the way back, she was still a wonderful traveler. She loved sitting with Grandma and looking out the plane window (yuck!). We met Grandma in Chicago - at that point in time both Grandma and Callie needed a snuggle, so they spent part of our layover cuddling up in the airport. (sorry, I took these with my cell phone) Looking out the ...
